Mersey Beat Band Business Cards

Liverpool was alive with musicians in the early sixties. Bands sprang up everywhere, and to help get the word out to promoters they had business cards. These small pieces of card offer an interesting insight into the group culture of the time, helping to document the myriad of musical groups available for bookings.

(clicking on the images takes you to larger versions)

There's three bundles of around 20 different musical group business cards going into the Auction in August. Each bundle is estimated at £40-£50.

Blue Genes in Crewe poster

This is an original concert poster for a concert by The Blue Genes and Peter Wharton at Crewe Town Hall. There's no date on the poster but it probably dates from around 1960/61, as after that the headline band became The Swinging Blue Jeans.

This item carries an estimate of £100-£120

Like many concert posters at the time it is hand painted, meaning that there wasn't many produced for each event. Also posters, like handbills, were often discarded after the concert happened adding to their rarity. Needless to say, original Beatles concert posters of this ilk or highly sought after by collectors and worth much more money.

Raise a glass or two!

Items are already starting to come in for the 2011 auction in August. The sooner you get items to us the more likely they are to get into the sale as there are limited places, and we try not to have many replicated lots.

Here's some of the first few items we've taken so far.

Look carefully at these gold rimmed drinking glasses, have you spotted it? Yes, the names don't match the pictures! This is the case with all the original versions of these glasses, so if you have a set with the names matching the pictures, sadly they are probably later replica versions.

Estimated value - £40-£50 each.
